Presenter Bio:
Michelle Swartz, PhD, CCC-SLP is an assistant professor at Stockton University. Her research interests include treatment and assessment tools for motor speech disorders across the lifespan.

Course Description:
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a complex motor speech disorder that challenges both diagnosis and treatment planning. This workshop provides clinicians with a practical overview of current evidence-based assessment and intervention strategies for CAS. Participants will learn how to identify hallmark features such as inconsistent errors, disrupted coarticulatory transitions, and atypical prosody, as well as how to use dynamic assessment to evaluate motor planning skills. Treatment approaches grounded in motor learning principles, such as Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), Rapid Syllable Transition (ReST), and Integrated Phonological Awareness (IPA), will be discussed with an emphasis on clinical application. Attendees will leave with actionable tools, case examples, and resources to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve treatment outcomes for children with CAS.

Learner Outcomes:
After completing this course, participants will be able to: 

1. Describe the defining characteristics and diagnostic features of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
2. Administer and interpret a variety of assessment tools to evaluate speech production and motor planning in children with CAS.
3. Analyze and evaluate treatment outcomes using evidence-based approaches to develop and justify effective intervention plans for children with CAS.
