The NJSHA Early Intervention committee’s mission is to provide opportunities for collaboration and professional support for speech-language pathologists who recognize:  1. the importance of the first years of life as the optimal period of brain development for language and speech acquisition; 2. the primary and essential role of caregivers in their child’s development; and 3. the role of the SLP in facilitating this process.

Strategic Objective

The NJSHA Early Intervention committee’s strategic objective is to advocate for high-quality evidence-based early intervention practices through clinician education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and support of family-centered care. 

Goals

1.  Provide free informational training courses such a PIWI to clinicians for implementing functional activities during home visits.  
2.  Collaborate with the AAC and Literacy Committees to advocate for functional communication methods and the importance of literacy in early childhood development. 
3.  Provide in-services to graduate school programs to make new clinicians aware of EI CFY opportunities.

1.  Informational pamphlets for clinicians and parents to be shared on the NJSHA website 
2.  PIWI 1, PIWI 2, and Hanen Approach training courses for clinicians

 

VOLUNTEER NOW!

All committees are open to all NJSHA members, with the exception of those stating specific criteria. NJSHA is always looking for committee volunteers to provide of their expertise for as much time you are willing to offer. Your involvement is two-fold, giving back to your organization as well as learning new skills and increasing your knowledge about professional issues. As a member you may volunteer for NJSHA Committees. Your donated time may be as little as one hour per month or as much as you choose.
