The Higher Education Committee makes recommendations to the NJSHA Board of Directors regarding academic and student matters. This Committee is charged with supporting student and faculty membership in addition to encouraging involvement in the association.

Strategic Objective
Promote advances in higher education including increasing student advocacy and supporting student and faculty scholarly agendas.
Goals
1. Promote student awards, including the annual Marni Reisberg and Robert Wood awards, to highlight exemplary students across the state.
2. Advance professional advocacy through student education and opportunities.
3. Enhance the knowledge and skills of therapists who serve as clinical educators for students studying at one of the state’s graduate programs.
Committee Projects & News
Date: 7/16/2026
1. The HE Committee presented the Marni Reisberg and Robert Wood awards to graduate students at the Annual NJSHA Convention on April 16, 2026.
2. Students participated in Student Advocacy Day with a visit to the State Capitol in Trenton where they learned about advocacy at the state level and observed the legislative process. This event took place on March 23, 2026.
3. The HE Committee offered a Clinical Educator Event as a thank you to supervisors of students at NJ colleges and universities. The June 4, 2026 virtual webinar, by Drs. JoAnne Cascia, Darya Hinman, and Karen Villaneuva was titled, “Exploring Student Motivations in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Placements”.

All committees are open to all NJSHA members, with the exception of those stating specific criteria. NJSHA is always looking for committee volunteers to provide of their expertise for as much time you are willing to offer. Your involvement is two-fold, giving back to your organization as well as learning new skills and increasing your knowledge about professional issues. As a member you may volunteer for NJSHA Committees. Your donated time may be as little as one hour per month or as much as you choose.
