NJSHA’s Standing Committees

All committees are open to all NJSHA members, with the exception of those stating specific criteria.

NJSHA is always looking for committee volunteers to provide of their expertise for as much time you are willing to offer. Your involvement is two-fold, giving back to your organization as well as learning new skills and increasing your knowledge about professional issues.

AAC Committee

The AAC Committee promotes current knowledge of AAC trends and evidence-based practices. The Committee provides resources and support for members of NJSHA and consumers.

Audiology Committee

The Audiology Committee serves as a resource promoting professional advocacy and addresses current issues affecting audiologists and consumers in the state of New Jersey. The committee monitors regulations and proposed legislation impacting audiologists and the consumers of audiology services in the state.

Continuing Education Committee

The committee works to provide high-quality continuing education programs to meet the varied professional development needs of speech, language, and hearing professionals. The committee plans and develops webinars as well as works collaboratively with the convention committee and other related professional groups to ensure members and non-members have regular access to a variety of CE opportunities.

Convention Committee

The Convention Committee plans and coordinates the annual NJSHA convention, the association’s premier professional development event. The committee works collaboratively to develop a dynamic program of educational sessions, poster presentations, networking opportunities, and special events that support continuing education and professional growth for speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

Healthcare Committee

The Healthcare Committee serves as a source of information on healthcare issues for members. The committee discusses current healthcare issues affecting individuals across the lifespan.

Higher Education Committee

The Higher Education Committee makes recommendations to the NJSHA Board of Directors regarding academic and student matters and is charged with supporting student membership and involvement in the association.

Literacy Committee

The Literacy Committee emphasizes the integral connection between oral and written language and the critical role speech-language pathologists (SLPs) play in supporting literacy development across the lifespan. The committee promotes interprofessional collaboration among audiologists, SLPs, educators, and professionals in diverse settings, such as schools, hospitals, clinics, private practices, and higher education.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee supports recruitment, engagement, and retention of members within NJSHA. The committee promotes the value of membership, welcomes new members, develops new initiatives, and fosters connections among speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and students across New Jersey. Through outreach and engagement initiatives, the committee strengthens the professional community and enhances the overall member experience.

Multicultural Committee

The Multicultural Committee’s goal is to raise awareness of multicultural issues related to the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. The committee works to increase knowledge of appropriate assessment and treatment procedures for culturally and linguistically diverse populations (CLD).

Private Practice Committee

The Private Practice Committee shares and discusses issues among members who are audiologists and speech-language pathologists in new and established businesses. This includes advocacy for reimbursement, improving access to care, networking opportunities, developing referral sources, and mentoring its members.

Public Relations Committee

The Public Relations Committee supports and makes visible the professional topics and issues that impact SLPs and AuDs, as well as those we serve.  The committee collaborates on communication strategies that highlight advocacy efforts, member achievements, and key events such as the annual convention and continuing education opportunities. Through social media, digital communications, and public-facing materials, the committee works to strengthen awareness of the professions and the value of services provided to individuals and communities throughout New Jersey.

School Affairs Committee

The School Affairs Committee addresses the needs of school-based members who are speech-language specialists (SLSs) and audiologists employed in New Jersey schools. The committee advocates for professionals and the students they serve, as well as function as an information resource on school-based issues.

Student Involvement Committee

The Student Involvement Committee is an active network of undergraduate and graduate students who attend NJ-based programs and residents who study out of state, majoring in all areas of communication sciences and disorders. The goal of the committee is to increase awareness of resources and involvement opportunities offered by NISHA before graduation.

VOICES Editorial Board

The VOICES Editorial Board oversees the development and publication of VOICES, the association’s member newsletter. Editorial Board members solicit, review, and edit submissions that highlight professional initiatives, advocacy updates, research, and member accomplishments. The board works collaboratively with NJSHA committees and the Leadership to ensure that members are informed and engaged with timely and relevant content that reflects the work of the association and the professions.

Website Committee

The Website Committee supports the ongoing development, organization, and maintenance of the NJSHA website to ensure it serves as an effective resource for members and the public. The committee works collaboratively to keep website content current, accessible, and aligned with the association’s initiatives, events, and professional resources. The committee helps ensure that the website remains a clear, user-friendly hub for communication, information, and engagement across the NJSHA community.
